NEW DELHI, JUN 22, 2026: DURING a recent visit to the Donimalai Complex, NMDC's senior management reviewed a series of strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening operational efficiency, promoting responsible mining practices and improving the quality of life of employees and surrounding communities. The visit provided an opportunity to assess the progress of key projects that are helping transform Donimalai into a future-ready mining complex while reinforcing NMDC's position as India's largest and a Responsible Iron Ore Producer.

During the visit, the management reviewed ongoing capacity expansion and infrastructure development initiatives aimed at achieving a production target of 10 MTPA from the Kumaraswamy Mine and 17 MTPA from the Donimalai Complex. These production enhancements form a key part of NMDC's vision of becoming a 100 MTPA mining company.

The management also reviewed initiatives for the utilization of iron ore containing up to 35% Fe, iron ore slimes and low-grade iron-bearing materials such as Banded Hematite Jasper (BHJ) and Banded Hematite Quartzite (BHQ). Traditionally, these resources had limited utilization and were treated as waste, despite containing valuable iron content. Through beneficiation and scientific mineral processing, NMDC is converting these underutilized resources into valuable raw material, recovering more iron ore from existing mines while reducing waste generation. The initiative supports sustainable mining practices, improves mineral conservation, reduces the environmental footprint of mining operations and contributes to the growing raw material requirements of India's steel sector.

Another important area reviewed during the visit was the newly implemented automated gate management system at the Kumaraswamy Mine. The digital system has strengthened transparency and efficiency in iron ore dispatches by enabling real-time monitoring and verification of material movement. The initiative helps ensure that mineral resources are transported securely to their intended destinations while reducing manual intervention and improving operational oversight.

Amitava Mukherjee, CMD, NMDC, along with the Functional Directors, inaugurated recently developed infrastructure facilities, including High-Rise Towers, that reflect NMDC's continued commitment towards employee well-being and community development. As India's largest iron ore producer, NMDC believes that sustainable growth extends beyond production targets and includes creating better living standards for employees, supporting local communities, and maintaining a strong focus on environmental stewardship. Speaking on the occasion, Amitava Mukherjee, CMD, NMDC , said, "Our vision is to build mining operations that future generations can look upon with pride. As India's largest iron ore producer, we aspire to make Donimalai Complex a model mining complex that reflects the highest standards of responsible mining, innovation and employee welfare. As NMDC advances towards its 100 MTPA vision, we remain committed to supplying high-quality iron ore to India's steel industry. At the same time, we are focused on maximizing the value of every resource through technology and innovation, transforming even low-grade ore into productive assets while promoting sustainable and responsible mining practices."
