NEW DELHI, APR 01, 2026: THE Nyaya Setu AI Chatbot, along with its official mascot "Dishika", was unveiled at the DISHA programme organised by the Department of Justice at Vigyan Bhawan by the Vice-President of India, C.P. Radhakrishnan, and the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal.

Nyaya Setu is a voice-first, multimodal, multilingual AI-powered legal assistant designed to democratise access to justice by helping citizens understand legal processes, rights, and next steps through simple voice and text interactions across multiple Indian languages.

Built and owned as a turnkey AI implementation by the Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD), the platform demonstrates a complete end-to-end voice stack, enabling seamless voice-led user journeys through integrated technologies including BHASHINI ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition), multilingual NLP, and conversational AI systems. The solution is aligned with legal guardrails and trained on frameworks such as BNS, ensuring responsible, safe, and context-aware responses.

Highlighting the significance of this initiative, Amitabh Nag, CEO, Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD), noted that Nyaya Setu represents a critical step towards making justice delivery more inclusive, where language no longer remains a barrier. Built on a voice-first, end-to-end AI stack, the platform showcases how turnkey AI implementations can enable seamless voice journeys and bring citizen services closer to people in their own languages, advancing the broader vision of democratisation of access to justice.

The mascot "Dishika" acts as a friendly digital interface, guiding users through legal queries and enhancing accessibility, trust, and engagement, especially for first-time users navigating the justice system.

During the programme, BHASHINI's Shrutlekh system enabled real-time transcription and multilingual translation of the Hon'ble Vice-President's address and other sessions, ensuring seamless accessibility and wider audience participation.

Nyaya Setu stands as a strong example of how voice-driven, AI-enabled platforms can advance the democratisation of access to justice by simplifying legal processes for citizens, particularly those facing linguistic and procedural barriers. The solution further reinforces BHASHINI's role in enabling scalable, inclusive, and voice-enabled digital public infrastructure that brings justice closer to every citizen.

BHASHINI is India's AI-powered language technology initiative under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), implemented by the Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD), an Independent Business Division under Digital India Corporation, a Section 8 company under MeitY. It has developed one of the world's largest AI inferencing platforms, the National Hub for Language Technology (NHLT), enabling multilingual AI capabilities across Indian and international languages through advanced speech and text technologies. BHASHINI manages a robust ecosystem powering open source models from academic institutions and organisations, supports more than 500 government websites, and processes over 15 million inferences daily. The platform offers over 20 specialised NLP services across 36 text and 23 voice languages, including support for complex tribal dialects and multiple international languages.

The current Nyaya Setu implementation has been developed by DIBD as a turnkey solution to demonstrate the end-to-end capabilities of language AI through a seamless, voice-led user journey.
