NEW DELHI, APR 16, 2021: IN its ongoing effort to strengthen the hospitality and tourism industry, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) signed an agreement with online travel platforms Cleartrip and Ease My Trip.
The primary objective of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is to provide extensive visibility to accommodation units (hotels, inns, guesthouses) which have self-certified themselves on SAATHI (System for Assessment, Awareness and Training for the Hospitality Industry) on the OTA platform.
The MoU also outlines both parties to encourage units to register on the National Integrated Database of Hospitality Industry (NIDHI) and on SAATHI and encourage the local tourism industry with appropriate safeguards for curbing the spread of infections. This will also allow the government to gather more information on accommodation units in order to gain actionable insights and designing evidence based and targeted policy measures and to promote safe, honourable and sustainable tourism.
The Tourism Ministry and the online travel companies will endeavour to take necessary steps to encourage and promote strategic and technical cooperation in the tourism sector for overall benefit in the identified areas through the MoU.
This comes a day after e-commerce major Flipkart announced it will acquire 100 per cent of Cleartrip's shareholding but the latter will continue to operate as a separate brand retaining all employees.
