New CCI Chennai office to establish regional presence of federal regulator

NEW DELHI, FEB 26, 2021: FINANCE and Corporate Affairs Minister Ms Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday virtually inaugurated the Competition Commission of India's (CCI) Regional Office (South) in Chennai, in a ceremony attended CCI Chairperson Mr Ashok Kumar Gupta.
Mr Gupta emphasised that the commission's Chennai office is a "step towards augmenting CCI's regional presence and fulfilling its duties as a federal regulator by engaging closely with States being important stakeholders in fostering greater competition in the economy."
Ms Sitharaman expressed stressed the need for the fair-trade regulator to be a "facilitator in the efforts of economic growth and development."
The Chennai office of CCI will facilitate enforcement, investigation, advocacy function in coordination with the Delhi office. It will cater to the requirements of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Puducherry and Lakshadweep.
