Global Innovation Index to be launched on June 15

NEW DELHI, JUNE 12, 2017: The Global Innovation Index (GII) 2017 will be released in Geneva, Switzerland, on June 15, 2017. The launch will be webcast live from 10:00 a.m. Geneva time. The index provides detailed metrics about the innovation performance of 127 countries and economies around the world. Its 81 indicators explore a broad vision of innovation, including political environment, education, infrastructure and business sophistication. The GII 2017 focuses on innovation in agriculture and food systems. It is expected that In the coming decades, the agriculture and food sector will face an enormous rise in global demand, increased competition for limited natural resources, and the effects of climate change. Innovation is key to sustaining the productivity growth required to meet this rising demand and to help enhance the networks ("food systems") that integrate sustainable food production, processing, distribution, consumption, and waste management.
The GII is the premier reference on innovation and a valuable benchmarking tool for policymakers, business leaders and other stakeholders. Co-published by WIPO, Cornell University and INSEAD , the report provides an annual ranking of the innovation capabilities and performance of economies around the world. The GII seeks to improve the way innovation is measured and understood. It recognizes the need for a broad vision of innovation, applicable to developed and emerging economies alike, and includes indicators that go beyond traditional measures of innovation, such as the level of research and development.
