MUMBAI, JULY 21, 2017: THE Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is the nation's sole note issuing authority. Along with the Government of India, RBI is responsible for the design, production and overall management of the nation's currency, with the goal of ensuring an adequate supply of clean and genuine notes.
As per the notification dated July 19, 2017, RBI will shortly issue bank notes of denomination Rs. 20 in Mahatma Gandhi series 2005.
The new Rs. 20 notes have the inset letter 'S' in both the number panels along with the signature of RBI Governor Mr. Urjit Patel. The design of these banknotes to be issued now will be similar in design to those currently in circulation.
'All the banknotes in the denomination of Rs. 20 issued by the Bank in the past will continue to be legal tender,' the RBI added.
